The Hidden Reasons Your CSA Score Is Still Rising

Even with zero ELD violations, hidden log misuse like PC abuse and ghost co-drivers can drive up your CSA score—here’s how to spot the risk before it costs you.

“Our drivers have no violations… so why is our CSA score high?”

We hear this a lot from fleets.

But here’s what’s really happening👇

📉 On the surface:
Limit violations = 4.3% (Good)

📈 But underneath:
PC miles = 9.6% (Risky)

One driver had 2x the fleet average in PC miles with no log in "violation".

Looks clean. But it’s not.

Here’s why:

Drivers aren’t trained to game the system — they just want to avoid a violation on paper.

So when the clock runs out?

➡️ They flip it to PC (personal conveyance)
➡️ Or leave it unassigned
➡️ Sometimes even add a ghost co-driver (a DOT inspector favorite)

It “fixes” the log — but creates a hidden risk that shows up in inspections, audits, and CSA points.

We dug deeper with one driver and found:

➡️ Most of his PC miles were actually drive time.
➡️ He was rushing between tight reefer deliveries.
➡️ Nobody showed him how to use split sleeper to stay legal.

Once we explained the impact on his record and the fleet’s, everything clicked.

No pushback. Just facts. And a better way forward.

Insurance Underwriters & Fleet Managers:

False logs are silent risk. Don’t trust clean dashboards. Look at behavior, patterns, and outliers. Most fleets under 50 trucks don’t audit logs.

That’s where the risk lives. And where we come in.
